During the month of June, Mount Sheridan Plaza is asking the community to donate supplies to the Mount Sheridan Plaza Community Pantry in partnership with the Salvation Army, to help those who need it most in our local community.
Patrons who donate to the Mount Sheridan Plaza Community Pantry will support the creation of pre-packed non-perishable food packages and essentials which contain staple items including pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, canned veggies, other non-perishable foods, rice, milk, children’s books, toiletries and household items such as sanitary products, toilet paper, tissues, disinfectant, shampoo, hand wash, and deodorant.
The essential parcels will be given to locals in need through the Salvation Army to people without a home, low-income earners, people seeking asylum, and those who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are finding it hard get by.
Mount Sheridan Plaza Marketing Manager, Kay Judd, said the Centre was proud to continue offering help to the community through its long-time partner, The Salvation Army. “We deeply value the well-being of our shoppers, patrons and members in our community, especially during the current health crisis.”
Cairns Salvation Army officer Major Ben Johnson, explained the importance of support, during this unprecedented time. “Clients are assessed over the phone and then asked to come in to receive a food parcel on a non-contact basis. We also offer referral services and can assist with utility bills when assessed. All clients who access our site are offered a food parcel as a basic need, as we do not want anyone to leave without some sort of assistance.
Mount Sheridan Plaza Centre Manager, Angela Liversage, acknowledged the importance of celebrating milestone events with the local community.
“It is important to stop and celebrate the positive things in our community, especially during this current time. The team at Mount Sheridan Plaza are honoured to have provided a donation point offering an opportunity for the local community to give back to people in need” she said.
Mount Sheridan Plaza is inviting the community to join them by placing a non-perishable item into the 2 allocated bins provided located adjacent to the entrance of Coles and Woolworths during this time of isolation.
Purchase or bring from home a non-perishable and place in the crates provided
