Today, Mount Sheridan Plaza is the biggest shopping centre in the southern suburbs and is primarily visited by residents of Gordonvale, Edmonton, Bentley Park, Mount Sheridan, White Rock, Forrest Gardens and Woree. These suburbs have grown rapidly as Cairns has expanded, however, the latest research shows the largest population increase is yet to come, taking the current number of residents from around 15,000 to over 73,000 by 2033.

Thousands of travellers also stop to shop here, given the building’s convenient location on the highway, ample free parking, and room for RVs. The Centre is currently preparing for the future by installing a 6-bay EV charging station.

Long-time anchor tenants include a high-performing Kmart, Woolworths and Coles.  The Reject Shop is a very busy mini-major.  The Centre features a large number of services, including a Doctors office and Pathologist, Dentist, Radiologist, Physiotherapist, Optometrist, Pharmacy, Post Office, Tax Agent, and JP Services Desk.  The site is also home to a Tavern and Red Rooster. Hungry Jacks also sits on the same block, however it is not part of Mount Sheridan Plaza’s leasing portfolio. The Centre proudly has many locally-owned and operated businesses, some of which have been here since the very beginning in the early 2000s, others since the redevelopment in 2013 when the Centre expanded over 3 times its size to what it is today.

The Plaza, as it’s commonly known, is undoubtedly Cairns’ most community-focused shopping centre due to the friendly, local atmosphere, and the many little ‘extras’ such as the community Book Exchange and Community Hub, monthly community Markets showcasing local businesses, plus weekly Chatty Cafe. There’s also a multitude of different community events held throughout the year plus free school holiday activities. The Centre frequently partners with local businesses, sporting groups, schools, social clubs, Council, not-for-profits and charities to enhance the community vibe, keep things interesting, and increase foot traffic.

Looking to the future, it is clear that no other shopping centre in Cairns will experience the type of trade area growth that is expected to arrive at Mount Sheridan Plaza’s door. Current and future tenants will see significant increases in retail trade for decades to come. Now is the time to make the move!
