Customers can expect a ‘cork-daubing fun’ with more than $6,000 worth of prizes to be won in Plaza BINGO, including gift cards, vouchers, cash and a full service car wash. There will also be free birthday mini cupcakes, car air fresheners and tote bags given out throughout August to celebrate the big 1-0.
On the 5th September 2012, Mount Sheridan Plaza opened its doors after undergoing a $65 million dollar expansion. The Centre increased its floor size by more than 5 times, adding the first new-concept Kmart in the country, first The Reject Shop outside the city and a state-of-the-art Parents room.
At the time this was the largest commercial enterprise in the southern corridor with 65 retail outlets including two national supermarkets, Coles and Woolworths, together employing over 500 locals from across retail and services sectors. 21 of the original tenants still call the Plaza home.
The Centre’s catchy advertising jingle “For things you need and more” was released and true to form, the Centre offers the community much more than the usual shopping experience, including:
A Community Hub with free book exchange, free newspapers, reading area, children’s play area, free Centre Wifi, Pet Parking, loyalty clubs for seniors and families, Walking Group, school holiday events competitions and promotions with thousands in cash and prizes, Monthly community markets and a JP Service now extended to four days a week.
Angela Liversage, Centre Manager said “The Centre was one of the first centres in the region to install solar panels, and making a commitment to reduce plastic provided reusable shopping bags to thousands of customers.”
Over the years Mount Sheridan Plaza has grown a reputation as the shopping centre of locals, for locals, and perhaps this stems from its heritage as being one of the few shopping centre’s in the region that is both family-owned and managed, with the Green family of Bundaberg at the helm.
Kay Judd, Centre Marketing Manager said “The milestone is all thanks to the community of Cairns and beyond, whose support has contributed to the town centre’s growth and success, we want to celebrate with the community who continues to support us each and every day.”
