Sports SIGN ON Weekend, helping people get active!

Mount Sheridan Plaza Sports Sign On is an annual event held at the Plaza aimed at increasing participation in sporting, active reaction and leisure pursuits with the region.

Now in its 11th year, this free community event provides an opportunity for children and adults to meet with club representatives all in one place, gather information, ask questions, get a taste of what is involved and sign up for the upcoming season.

This year the event is to be held on Saturday February 4 and Sunday February 5 from 10am-2pm. More than 20 clubs from across the region have already taken up the free offer and signed up to participate to promote their club and 2022 memberships.

Cairns residents are invited to sample the huge selection of sports on offer in the air conditioned comfort of the mall. Sports Sign on 2023 is a one-stop shop for children and adults to sign up and try different sports, register to volunteer or simply find out what events are coming up.

Kay Judd, Marketing and Customer Experience Manager at Mount Sheridan Plaza says, “There are so many benefits to playing sports, learn new skills, be part of a team, learn to work with coaches, learn the value of practice and getting active and social.”

“Each year Sports Sign On continues to grow and we’re proud to run a program that promotes a healthy lifestyle and benefits the region’s sporting and recreational clubs. Playing sports, or even volunteering, is a great way to meet new people and be an active member of a community” says Centre Manager, Angela Liversage.

Kay Judd Marketing and Customer Experience Manager said “An early connection to sport can also encourage a lifelong love of sport and physical activity.”

“It’s so great to see returning clubs each year. The interactive displays offer a great opportunity to test your skills and try new things. Now more than ever people are feeling isolating and it’s important to stay active for their physical and mental health.” Says Tanya Curtis our Sports Sign Coordinator.

Sporting groups can still register to host a stall to promote their sport to potential participants. Each sporting club who participates will go in the running to win a thousand dollar sponsorship for their club, there are three on offer.
